Identity Theft

Identity theft is described as obtaining another person's personal identifying information with the purpose of using it in an illegal or fraudulent manner. If you have committed an offense that violated the United States criminal code or an offense involving Federal government property, you may face criminal charges in Federal court.

Title 18 U.S.C. 1028 governs federal identity theft prosecutions. It is prohibited to deliberately exhibit another person's identification document, transfer a stolen identification document, and make, transfer, possess, or traffic equipment that will be used to produce counterfeit identification documents, according to federal law.
